New elegant and fully responsive theme “Twenty Twelve”

One of the best new features on WordPress 3.5 is the new default theme, Twenty Twelve.  It’s the very first WordPress default theme that comes with a homepage and, following WordPress’s philosophy of keeping things clean and simple, is very inconspicuous. The point is to make the content the star, not the visual bells and whistles.  It also has the dual purpose of taking WordPress from Blog status to Content Management System (CMS) status, something that WordPress has been striving to do for some time. No links manager in WordPress 3.5

When WordPress 3.0 was released it came with menus, making the links manager function obsolete. For version 3.5 it’s been taken away completely and is now only a plug-in.  In my opinion this is a good sign because WordPress developers show with this move that they’re not against taking stuff away from the platform if it ultimately makes it better and easier to use.

Retina support for iOS devices

The retina support that has been added for iOS devices is going to convert many of your design elements into CSS3 shapes, meaning that you’ll have fewer images to load. This should improve performance on all iOS devices. It of course also gives an incredible picture when you’re using any of your Apple devices.

Finally as with every upgrade there are workflow improvements such as an updated Welcome panel, an improved color picker and improved handling of images. No matter which version you use you’re getting an excellent product but I believe that the new WordPress 3.5 will add some very real improvements to an already 1^st class platform.

1. Install the plugin Custom Post Template and activate it
2. Create a file inside the theme directory and name it something like post-unique-name.php
3. Now open the file and place all necessary code you need for the post and add this code at very beginning of all code:

4. Go to WordPress backend and edit the post. Just below the categories, you will find a box titled “Post Template” from where you can select template you want to use for the post.
   
5. If you want to apply this for any custom post type, you have to add some code to theme’s functions.php file. The code is:

   function my_cpt_post_types( $post_types ) {
       $post_types[] = 'products';
       return $post_types;
   }
   add_filter( 'cpt_post_types', 'my_cpt_post_types' );
   

   This is for custom post type called “products”. You can change it to anything else you need.
